FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Welcome to The Strand Studio, where extensions are custom, seamless, and always tailored to you. Here’s a list of the most common questions I get about my extension services.
Everything you need to know before booking your dream hair.
What type of extensions do you offer?
I specialize in genius wefts using hidden beaded row (HBR) techniques. This method creates a lightweight, natural look without the bulk or damage of traditional extensions. I also offer tape-ins and fusion options based on your hair goals and lifestyle.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate?
If your natural hair is at least shoulder length, and you're looking to add length, volume, or both, you’re likely a great candidate! A consultation is required before any install to assess your hair health, texture, and goals.

How long does the hair last?
With proper at-home care, your extension hair can last up to 1 year. However, you’ll need to come in for maintenance (move-ups) every 6–8 weeks to keep them secure and healthy.

What’s included in the install price?
Each full install includes:
-
Custom color matching
-
Hair prep and scalp care
-
Seamless install using your selected method
-
Blending haircut & finished style
-
Extension care education

How much does it cost?
Install prices vary depending on how many rows you need, the type of hair, and your desired look.
Typical investment starts at:
-
One row: $300+
-
Two rows: $550+
-
Hair cost: $500–$1,200 depending on length, volume, and brand

Can I wash and style my hair like normal?
Yes! You can style your extensions with heat, curl, braid, and wear them up—just like your natural hair. I’ll provide a custom aftercare routine to help you extend the life of your hair.

Will extensions damage my hair?
Not when they’re installed and maintained properly. My methods are tension-free, safe for your scalp, and designed with the health of your natural hair in mind.
How often do I need to come in for maintenance?
Every 6–8 weeks is ideal to move up your rows, check the health of your natural hair, and refresh your style. I also offer add-on treatments during move-ups to keep your hair feeling its best.

Do I need a consultation?
Yes. All new extension clients must book a consultation before any install. This ensures we choose the right method, hair type, and game plan for your goals.

Can I bring my own hair?
To ensure quality and longevity, I only install hair that is ordered through The Strand Studio. This guarantees it matches your color and texture, and that it's ethically sourced and salon-grade.

What brand of extension hair do you use?
I work with high-quality brands like INH, KOVI, LUSH LOCKS, known for durability, softness, and long-lasting wear. You’ll get full transparency during your consult.

What’s the difference between one row and two rows?
-
One row is great for volume or slight length.
-
Two rows are ideal for a full transformation—length, volume, and maximum blend.
Some clients also need a mini row to fill in thinner areas like sides.

How long does the install appointment take?
Depending on the number of rows, installs typically take:
-
1 row: 1.5–2 hours
-
2 rows: 2.5–3 hours
This includes prep, install, cut, and style.

What if I have curly or textured hair?
I offer curly-friendly methods and will custom-match hair texture to blend with your natural curl pattern. Your consult will include a texture match and long-term care tips for curls.

Can I go swimming or workout with extensions?
Yes, but with care! Always braid or secure your hair before swimming or intense workouts, and use a protective serum or leave-in. I’ll walk you through a lifestyle-specific care plan.

Do extensions feel heavy or uncomfortable?
They may feel “different” the first few days, but they shouldn’t feel painful or pull. My installs are designed to be light and tension-free so you can wear your hair up, down, or anywhere in between.

What happens if I want to take a break?
You can absolutely remove your extensions and give your natural hair a break at any time. I offer gentle removal services and can guide you through restoring or reapplying when you're ready again.

What if I color my hair often?
No problem! We’ll align your extension plan with your color schedule so everything blends beautifully. I’m a lived-in color specialist, so I’ll help maintain both your base and your extension tone.

Can I add color or highlights to the extensions?
I do not recommend lightening extension hair—it has already gone through a delicate coloring process. However, toning or lowlighting is possible, and I can custom-color for seamless results when needed.
